Zari embroidery goes as old as mughal period from 15th century. The king & queen of that era used to wear dresses with zari embroidery work done on it. It was in the beginning of 19th century the family introduced this type of work on tapestry pieces, bags, belts, boxes, dresses etc. With zari embroidery using precious & semi-precious stones. The family in the mids of 19th century made 2 master pieces for the world exhibition. First is a carpet with 18000 precious & semi-precious stones which has been exhibited in several countries like USA, Japan, Australia, Italy etc. And known as the pride of India. Second piece is a peacock throne with 32000 precious and semi-precious stones known as thakt-e-tause. They still are in family possession. The zari embroidery is done by skilled labor and it is all hand made and nothing is done by electronic machine. There are two types of embroidery first is zardosi work and second is aary work. Zardosi work include: Gizai, dapka, kohra, silk threads, spun polyester threads, precious and semi-precious stones. Aary work include: Beads, sequence, nalki, ksp and different types of threads. Various types of cloths on which embroidery can be done: Velvet, tissue, raw silk, satan, jute etc.
