Single-Row Tapered Roller Bearings

The most basic and widely used tapered bearing, the single-row type consists of the cone assembly and the cup. It is usually fitted as one of an opposing pair. During equipment assembly, single-row bearings can be set to the required clearance (endplay) or preload condition to optimize performance.

Single-row tapered roller bearings have positive roller alignment that ensures true rolling motion and generates a “seating force” that pushes the roller against the cone large rib. This seating force prevents the rollers from skewing off apex, thereby keeping them positively aligned and located against the cone large rib.

Single row tapered roller bearings are able to harness both radial and axial forces. The axial load capacity depends on the degree of the contact angle. These parts are able to control the axial load in one direction only and that is why they are assembled in pairs. The axial clearance or preload designated in these pairs of bearings is to be adjusted during assembly.

The amount of the axial clearance or preload is determined according to the following criteria: operating conditions; the size and type of the roller bearings; and the specific requirements of the mating arrangements rigidity

Double row tapered roller bearings

Double row tapered roller bearings are used in heavier duty applications, as well as in satisfying the needs of the automobile industry. These are manufactured with a specific axial clearance which is selected to suit the operating conditions in mind.

TDI bearings have a one-piece double inner race and two single outer races and are typically supplied complete with an outer race spacer as a pre-set assembly. The bearing can be used at fixed positions on rotation shaft applications. For rotating housing application it can be used to float on the stationary shaft.

The configuration of the TDO provides a wide effective bearing spread, making it ideal for applications in which overturning moments are a significant load component. TDO bearings can be used in fixed positions or allowed to float in the housing bore.

Screw-down bearings are mainly used in the screw-down of rolling mills. This type of bearings has no cage and full of tapered rollers, so that can carry high axial loads and have low limiting speed. In order to improve the performance, the underside of the shaft washer is concave spherical surface (type TTSV00) or convex spherical surface (type TTSX00), they cooperate with the spherical side face of housing screws which have the same radius of curvature and are through precise finish, and both of them are uniform contact, so ensuring uniform stress of bearings when housing screws have obliquity relative to axial of bearings.
