We choose these models because of their following advantages:

- Transmitter and receiver are two separate sensors which allow great flexibility for angle

adjustment

Proposed installation of Telco sensors

We assume the Telco sensors are installed in the escalators near to reflective marble wall. Below is the plane view of the site.

A pair of sensors (transmitter and receiver) will be installed at the lower part of each handrail. By making use of the diffuse proximity function, escalator user could be detected. In order to ensure every users entering from different direction be detected, each pair of sensors should be adjusted slightly pointing inwards which make the two sensing beam intersecting at a point. In addition to the gain adjustment on amplifier, the sensing distance could be set and thus an isosceles triangle detection beam could be setup. Once the user walk towards the entrance of the escalator, he/she should cut the triangle and be detected by the sensing beam.

We propose the intersection point situated at 2 meters perpendicular away from the entrance. Thus the

sensors should be adjusted with a 21° angle inwards.

The transmitter power decreases when the angular displacement increases. Please see appendix A for

more detail on power emission.

To ease the installation, we’ve designed a mounting bracket. It is made of stainless steel with enough

space for the sensors mounted in it. It is designed according to the requirements of the escalator and

site so that once the sensors are mounted on the bracket, the beam transmission angles are already

adjusted without the need of furthermore adjustment. Distance between the transmitter and receiver is

set at 40 mm apart in order to avoid cross signal interference. At the back of bracket, there are two with

5.5mm diameter screw holes for fix installation. Please see appendix B for more detail on the bracket

dimension.
