1 Product Description
Alkyl Ketene Dimer Original Powder is made after acylation and dehydrochlorination of high-grade fatty acid(C≥12). This product is used as the main material for the production of AKD Neutral Sizing Agent (in the form of emulsion) which is used for the internal sizing of fine papers. Alkyl Ketene Dimer Original Powder is ready for use as internal sizing agent after being melted with heat and emulsified into a stable emulsion in the starch emulsifier, protective agent solution.

The process

1. Heat Alkyl Ketene Dimer Original Powder till it is melted;

2. Add the melted product into starch emulsifier, protective agent solution;

3.Emulsify the solution until the emulsion becomes stable;

AKD emulsion produced by Alkyl Ketene Dimer Original Powder is widely applicable to a variety of paper such as cultural paper, paperboard, newsprint, fruit bag paper which is made of wood pulp, reed pulp, waste art paper pulp, and which requires sizing . It’s adaptable in PH (7-9) while the optimum conditions for the PH is (7.0-8.0). Calcium carbonate can be used as filler, and the product can replace conventional acidic rosin sizing.

AKD original powder or AKD wax can be used to make AKD Liquid or AKD Neutral Sizing Agent.

AKD Liquid or AKD Neutral Sizing Agent is the product of improvement and perfection of traditional high pressure homogenization process, and it effectively slows down AKD hydrolysis and becomes stable. In addition, its medium density of positive charge makes the AKD molecules retains well in the fiber to the maximum degree, resulting in much improved sizing efficiency. This product effectively improves the printability of paper and ink absorbency. Meanwhile calcium carbonate can be used as filler and improves the whiteness, opacity, smoothness and many other physical properties of paper.

Use
Usually, add the product continuously before of after the high box with cationic starch and polyacrylamide according to the following order: cationic starch-AKD-polyacrylamide. General dosage of the said product: 8-15 kg of the product for per tonne of paper.

Caution

No mixture with other products. The product should be stored in a cool place (5 °C ~ 30 °C), avoid freezing and exposure.

Packing

50 kg, 200 kg, 1000 kg plastic drum, or according to customer requirements.

As AKD liquid have a very short shelter life for international transport. We therefore recommend our customers our AKD wax powder and emulsifier for emulsification and production of AKD liquid.
