How to Choose the Right Size:

Spikes come in various sizes. Choosing the right size for your installation is a very important step to ensure that your bird problem is successfully solved. Besides measuring the linear footage required, you also need to know the width of the surface being protected. In some cases more than one row of bird deterrent spikes will be needed to completely cover the area. See the example below on how to measure and purchase the appropriate amount of spike strips.

Single-edged Surface:

Allow no more than ½” of space from the back wall or surface. It is recommended to allow at least a ¼” of overhang on the outside edge of the surface being protected. It is ideal if you can cover the entire surface with the bird deterrent spikes, leaving no space for birds to "wiggle" into. Be sure to purchase the correct size (width) spike to do the job right.

Double-edged Surface:

Cover the entire surface with bird spikes. Do not allow any space between rows of spikes if more than one row is needed. It is recommended that you overlap the spike strips by 1” to ensure proper coverage.

When installing more than one row of bird spikes, start by installing the row farthest from the front and continue forward to be sure that the entire surface is covered.
