Unit Location:

M/s.Auronature is a non profit organization. It is situated in the International Township of Auroville, Tamil Nadu, and rural south India, dedicated to promoting a craft that takes us back to simple and natural way of living. Our working area is around 3000 sq.mts.

Since the inception of” “Auronature”in 2004, we are giving special trainings to apply, already gained experiences and make them available to villages in our area and beyond. Mainly it is started in view to providing employment opportunities to villagers around Auroville.

The blend of cold process soap making techniques and handicrafts inspired us to create a new sustainable approach to the whole issue of ecology in soap field and all kind handicrafts.

Unit Participants:

At present we are 15 employees. Fully all are women. Two are handicapped.

No participants of child labour or women exploitation in our unit. All the workers of our unit are from surrounding villages and very poor background and most of them are women whose income is really very essential to run their family.

Products:

The products manufactured are highly qualified Herbal Handmade Soaps, Gift pack soaps, Organic handmade soaps, Hotel Guest Soaps with aromatherapies in a wide variety of fragrances, Incense, Handloom Sleeping Hammocks, Sitting Hammocks, Baby Hammocks,

Bedspreads-Single, Double, King Size, Candles and all kind of handicrafts. The quality of the work is very good to the standard for European market.

Our Prices are competitive:

Purest and highly qualified raw-materials or ingredients are used in the manufacture of these products. Strict quality control is exercised not only in the selection of raw-materials but in various stages of production as well. A lot of care is taken for the storage of the finished products in a clean environment. Final packing in master cartons is professionally and carefully done to ensure that the products reach the market in an impeccable condition.

Markets:

In India its products are sold in prestigious boutiques and stores as well as in the general market. Auronature is also a very good exporter of various countries in the world. We are in need to increase our sales in order to continue our projects and other activities. Auronature also provides personalized packaging in many different languages on request.

Working Conditions to the Workers:

Auronature gives first priority to the workers welfare. We provide a clean atmosphere. The workers are given fair wages. The employees get paid sick leave upto one week. The workers are given gifts at the cost of $50 against their festival. Bonus is given to the workers yearly twice in their religious festivals Deewali and Pongal.

Auronature takes care of the employee’s medical treatment and all worker are affiliated to welfare schemes such as EPF (Employees Provident Fund) and FPS (Family Pension Scheme).under these schemes the workers get old age pension and retirement benefits. Once in every year a farewell trip is arranged.

Personal Loans arranged for the workers without any interest, i.e., Educational loan for the workers children, repairing house (Keet Roofing), marriages, or any other unexpected incidents etc, wages advance is also paid for the workers in the middle of each month so that it will help the workers to run the family without any difficulty.

Ambition of Auronature:

The unit progresses in a healthy manner. We would like our unit to have a good reputation abroad to raise the living standard of the people in the unit. We are in progress of creating a Trust and with the help of trust members we are going to produce Perfumed Candles, Incense, Handicrafts, Textiles, Garments and Lampshades, etc.

We are going to participate in IFAT (International Fair Trade Association).We are following the fair trade principles like fair price, transparency, trade honestly, No child labour, etcWe like to have more regular customers to improve the living standard of the workers and the Trust.If you have any new income generation projects, we are eager to learn and work according to your needs.

Women Self help Groups:

We are running some self help groups, all are women (all are from below poverty line, including widows etc.) our workers are from the self help groups. The group members are given equal rights. They are doing the monthly savings in the bank and utilizing funds for their own purpose in very low interest. The saving is done according to the income. We are organizing the groups to run in a proper way like conducting meetings monthly once, writing records, opening bank accounts in the group member’s name, arranging government funds, etc.

Social activities:

We have a good reputation in our village as we directly involve ourselves in most of the social activities as long as there is no involvement from the politicians.

1. Cleaning the village monthly once.

2. Contributing to most of the village sports activities.

3. We also involve in temple celebrations twice a year.

Eco service:

All our products are ecologically produced so we are very conscious about our environment and our surroundings. We are altogether 15 members in our unit. We start at 8.30 A.M and end at 10.30 A.M. We pick up the plastics and sweep in some parts of the road where garbage’s are mostly collected. This is a free service social work.

Contribution towards sports:

Yearly at least five sports competitions are organized by several youths in the village. They come to generate funds from different people as there is no other income source in the village. Mostly youths come to us for donations. We support them by sponsoring the first or the second prices, giving uniforms, food etc. for the sportsmen those who participate in the competitions.
