Aluminum and Metal Clad Circuit Boards:

Metal clad circuit boards (also called Metal Clad PCBs, Thermal Clad PCBs, T-Clad

PCBs or Thermal Substrates) use a base metal material to assist with the heat dissipation

of the circuit board.

Base metals in the metal clad circuit boards are used as an alternative to FR4 or CEM3

boards for the ability to dissipate heat away from critical board components and to less

crucial areas such as the metal heatsink backing or metallic core technologies.

The metal core of the thermal PCB can be aluminum (aluminum clad PCB), copper (copper

clad PCB or a heavy copper PCB) or a mixture of special alloys. The most commonly used

is analuminum clad PCB.

Metal clad PCBs are widely used in Light emitting diodes (LED) technologies to assist with

heat dissipation and produce a specific illumination. LEDs are used in the below noted

applications:

-Back light unit applications

-Street safety applications (streetlights, lighting, etc.)

-General lighting applications

-Automotive LED applications

-Power converters: telecom, industrial, high voltage regulator, power supplies

-Hybrid/electric motor control applications

The thickness of metal cores in PCB base is typically 30 mil - 125 mil, but thicker and thinner

plates are available based on the customer’s application needs.

How to get aluminum pcb quotation from us?

1) Pls send us your file with these format: .PCB / . P-CAD / .DXP / .CAD / .Gerber.

( we can't open eagle file)

2) Pls tell us the PCB specifications such as base material, copper thickness, board thickness, surface finish, solder mask, silkscreen and quantity. ( Most important, pls send us pcb stack-up if the board is multilayer)
