wall panel heaters

Efficient convection technologyUsing convection technology Panel Heaters generate an efficient up-draught of heat circulated into the room. Once the panel is up to temperature, about 90% of the total heat generated is distributed by natural convection, the remaining 10% by radiation. But please note the surface temperature of the panel can reach 70ºC to 90ºC.What are they made from?wall Panel Heaters are constructed from two cement fibre boards with an element wire laminated between them, and come complete with a power cord and plug. The panels are factory painted with super silk wipe clean water based paint.Versatile modern designwall Panel Heaters are very versatile - they can be painted with any good quality water-based paint to match, or contrast with your wall colour. The panels have an easy to reach illuminated on/off switch with low intensity light.

eHeater Panel Heaters are available in two sizes a small 450 x 600mm (260 watt) panel, or a large 600 x 600mm (400 watt) panel . The 260 watt uses approx 7* cents electricity per hour and the 400 watt uses approx 10* cents of electricity per hour, that is the equivalent power consumed by 3-5 incandescent light bulbs to heat an area of approximately 9m2 or 12m2 respectively.

Personal heating requirements and specific applications may vary.

Questions and Answers

ABOUT/DESCRIPTIONWhat type of heater is it?

An electric wall-mounted panel heater.

What is it made of?

Cement fibre board.

How does it work?

It uses the principle of hot air rising, or natural convection heating. This very economic form of "natural" heating is safe and efficient and produces a room with a more even temperature throughout.

What size is it?

The larger heater measures 600 x 600 x 10mm (400 watts), the smaller heater measures 450 x 600 x 10mm (260 watts).

Is it Silent?

Yes. There is no noise at all.

Can I paint it?

Yes, the panel heater can be painted with any acrylic water based paint (no oil-based paints) to match, or contrast with, any wall colour. We recommend leaving the heater turned off for 24 hours after painting.

Can I wallpaper it?

No. The heat would cause the wallpaper to peel off.

Does it have a thermostat or timer?

The Original Wall Panel Heaters do not have a thermostat or timer. However the New eHeater+ with eController does, please see eHeater+ with eController benefits page.

How economical?

We believe the panel heaters are one of the most economical electric panel heaters on the market today. The heater is such a low wattage (only 260 and 400 watts) to operate. The 260 watt uses approx 7* cents electricity per hour and the 400 watt uses approx 10* cents of electricity per hour, that is the equivalent power consumed by 3-5 incandescent light bulbs.

Based on an electricity price of 25 cents per unit (kWh), incl GST.

Please Note: These figures are only approximate and personal heating requirements and specific applications may vary.

How can that be effective?

There is a constant circulation of hot air rising from a large surface area between the electric wall heater and the wall. There is also a small amount of direct heat radiating from the surface. These two forms of heating result in an effective and inexpensive heating system.

What size room will it warm?

The small panel will generally warm a room of about 3m x 3m (9m2)

The large panel will generally warm a room of about 3m x 4m (12m2) You can add as many heaters as you like to heat any size of room or home, creating a cost-effective central heating system.

Personal heating requirements and specific applications may vary. We suggest if you are unsure you purchase one panel first. After trialling it in your home in your climate you will have a better idea of how many others you may require and in what rooms.

Both figures assuming a 2.4m ceiling height with insulated walls and ceiling.

What if the room has no wall insulation?

Any heater will lose more heat through uninsulated walls. Do not install the convector heater on an uninsulated exterior wall. As the main means of heating is convection, the wall behind the panel will get warm. If this is an uninsulated exterior wall, there will be some heat lost directly outside.

How long will it take to heat my room?

It will take approximately 15 minutes for the panel heater to reach its maximum surface temperature. The time taken to heat the room will depend on the nature of the room. It may be as little as another hour, if the room was warm to begin with, several hours if the room was cold.

When installed in bedrooms, most people will turn heater on mid to late afternoon; then some people leave it on all night, others turn heater off before going to bed, others set a time switch to turn it on again before waking up.

Can I cover the panel heater?

No. Anything placed on or against the panel heater and/or obstructing the convection channel between the panel heater and the wall will cause it to overheat. This will damage the panel heater and the wall and the item that was put there.

How safe is it for children and pets?

The panel heater has no exposed elements and a surface temperature of approximately 70°C-90°C. It is not made of metal and because it is mounted to a wall it won't tip over. This product is a heater and does become hot to touch. As long as a child is over 2 years old or a person has a 'reflex reaction' and the ability to remove themselves from the panel quickly we do not expect them to be burnt, babies and children should never be left unsupervised while the panel heater is on.

What walls can I install it on?

Any wall where the natural convection is going to work best. Do NOT install the wall panel heater on an uninsulated exterior wall. Heat will be lost through the wall. Do NOT install under a window. Heat will possibly be lost behind the curtains/blinds. All other walls we expect to be OK.

How close can the panel be to a right angle wall?

A minimum distance of 100mm is recommended.

How close can furnishings and other items be when placed in front of the panel?

A distance of at least 200mm is recommended. If it is a solid item, ideally it would be raised off the floor to allow for sufficient airflow underneath the panel.

Does the panel have to go on a wall?

Yes. It is sold as an installed appliance. The gap of 18-20mm between the panel and the wall is critical for the best distribution of heat by natural convection. The heater does not have a tilt switch for portable use.

How hot does the wall behind the panel get?

Maximum temperature is approximately 50°C. This is acceptable for all building materials that we know of.

Where is the cord and plug in the pictures?

The cord is attached at the back of the panel in the bottom right hand corner.

Can I rotate the panel to have the cord entering on the bottom left?

No. Due to the internal construction of the heater, to avoid over-heating all heaters must be mounted on the wall in this orientation. If the heater must be installed on the wall to the right of the power point, the "short cord" will not reach. You need to buy the "long cord" model. Please ensure the cord is not wrapped around the heater, nor hidden behind it. The cord must not obstruct the convection airflow from below and behind the heater panel.

When I first turn on the panel heater there is quite a smell coming from it. Is this normal?

Yes. Many new heaters emit a smell when first used. This normally lasts only for a few hours, occasionally for a day or two depending on amount of use. Any new heater 'smell' is non-toxic, so no need for alarm. If the smell is not to your liking we suggest you open the windows and leave the panel heater on for several hours before occupying the room.
